Carbon County is a great place for biking, hiking and ATVing. With numerous mountain ranges, parks and forests, the county has excellent trails for adventurers and outdoors enthusiasts. Here are some of the places you should add to your list.
The Miracle Mile
If you are planning on visiting through this beautiful stretch of river make sure to bring your fishing gear. The world-famous Miracle Mile is actually a 5.5-mile stretch of the North Platte River fed by Seminoe Reservoir. It is great for fly fishing and the North Platte River here has huge trout. As if that is not enticing enough, the ATV trails are fantastic and there are great camping facilities.
Continental Divide Trail
This famous trail stretches out over a length of approximately 600 miles and has the Ferris Mountains segment in Carbon County. Scenic, more secludedand with plenty of water sources the segment is a great place to hike and camp while engaging in other activities such as bird watching and wildlife viewing.

Deep Jack Trailhead
From US Hwy 130 in Saratoga travel west on County Road 500 for 17 miles, turn south on County Road 405. Continue on County Road 405 for 4.5 miles ahead CR 405 becomes CR 452. Continue on CR 452 for approximately 6.5 miles, turn on Forest Road 830 travel 5.5 miles to Deep Jack Trailhead.
Green Mountain Trailhead
From US Hwy 230 and WY 70 in Encampment travel south 5.6 miles on WY 70. Turn South on Forest Road 550, travel 6.4 miles to Forest Road 406. Forest Road 406 becomes a 4WD only road, continue 2.4 miles West to Green Mountain Trailhead.
Pipeline/Little Snake Divide
From US Hwy 230 and WY 70 in Encampment travel south 5.6 miles on WY 70. Turn South on Forest Road 550, continue 22 miles to Forest Road 809. Travel 1 mile on FR 809 to Little Snake Divide.
Brush Creek
The Brush Creek Campground is high and quite large consisting of 20 campsites surrounded by woods, hiking trails and ATV riding trains. It is at an 8,300ft elevation and can be accessed from Saratoga using the WY 130 heading east to North Brush Creek Rd/Forest Route 100.
Elk Mountain
Elk Mountain is an 11,156ft mountain that at its base has a small town of 192 friendly inhabitants. The mountain is a magnificent sight and anyone with a love for nature and the outdoor activities will find plenty to love. This is one mountain you will definitely want to visit while in Carbon County. Named after Sioux Chief, Standing Elk, there are a whole host of activities ranging from trout fishing, to hiking, hunting, snowmobiling and camping among others. You can also stay at the historic Elk Mountain Hotel.
Medicine Bow National Forest
This forest spans over the Snowy range and Sierra Madres in eastern and southern parts of Carbon County and is named after the river running through it, the Medicine Bow River. The forest offers a great deal of recreational activities with ATV riding, hunting, hiking, fishing and camping and is thus a great place for adventure-seekers.
Seminoe Sand Dunes
One of the best places in Carbon for ATV riding, the Seminoe State Park is surrounded by huge white sand dunes that any ATV enthusiast looking to explore the area will enjoy. There is a restroom facility near the marina and a general store. The view is beautiful around the lake for relaxing or water activities. You can ride ATV/UTV/dirt bike/sand rails on the sand dunes. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as pronghorn antelope and sage grouse at home among the vast area of sage brush. Day-use and overnight facilities feature improved sites, comfort stations, tables and grills. Seminoe has four campgrounds available.
